STOP. get an attorney as you will get screwed by taking 5k.. Your med bills are far from over. When your old your chances of having arthritis in that ankle have now tripled.
You can sue for medical bills related to the accident for LIFE,
Replacement value of your vehicle, pain and suffering, lost wages and a few other things your attorney will tell you about.

FYI
my brother was injured with a fractured wrist and that was a 50k offer he turned down. DO NOT AGREE TO ANY SETTLEMENT YOURSELF. and when you get an attorney, part of the settlement is to include your attorney fees separately so you don't pay taxes on the money you'll owe the attorney.

If the other person was at fault and their insurance is paying then at a minimum they should pay you the value of your totaled car, The value of all your medical bills, The value of your missed time at work, and a few thousand (or more) extra for all your pain and suffering.

5000 is not enough.

If you were at fault and your insurance is paying then it will be limited by the type of coverage you have and the amount of your deductible. It still seems low.

Does the $5,000 include the value of the car? Without full details it is difficult to evaluate a bodily injury claim.
In the absence of any other medical expenses, lost wages, continuing medical disability, I think the minimum value of the bodily injury claim would be $15,000.
