Hundreds of illegal immigrants spend long periods in New York City's hospitals despite being well enough to get less expensive care at nursing centers because they lack sufficient insurance.

The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/u95vPq ) reports that consequently hospitals absorb the bill for millions of dollars in unreimbursed expenses annually.

Medicaid often pays for emergency care for illegal immigrants but not for continuing care.

Under state law, public hospitals are not allowed to discharge patients to shelters or to the street.

Many of the those patients lack appropriate housing or have no family in the area.

The city's Health and Hospitals Corporation estimates the city has about 300 such patients, most in public hospitals or higher-priced skilled public nursing homes.

Who pays for all this ? If we deduct these costs is it really cheap labor ?

: If illegal, they should be getting just emergency care and then deported to a hospital in their own country!! Sad these people are taking beds and help that our elderly and veterans need!! Right there is proof that they get their medical bills paid for:
