I have seen quotes from between $4,000 and $9,000 (capacity and complexity being the variables) for a full system installed with all controls and piping.

Using our house as an example, we already have an indirect water heater tank, so the cost to us would only be the collector(s), controls and piping - less than $3,000 in any case. But that is the equivalent of three years worth of our entire gas bill for heat, hot water and cooking - a long payback - even in a 4,200 s.f. house.
